What if things don’t go as planned?

Do you know what, sometimes despite all our planning, whoever we are, things happen that are out of our control and journeys don’t go how we thought they would.

Don’t Panic

The best advice we can give you, is to try not to panic. You can call your parent/carer and let them know. They can help you work through the best solutions to get you to your destination.

Stuck in traffic

Sometimes journeys might take longer than expected when there are traffic problems, so buses and trains can be late. You can use apps to check what their new arrival times will be.

Full Bus

Sometimes buses can be full, so even if you put your hand out, they can’t stop as they have no more space. If it is a frequent service you could wait for the next one, and call someone to say you are running late, or ask for help to find another option.

Busy Train

Sometimes train services can be very busy. Try to calmly walk down the carriages to find a space you feel comfortable with. If you know when the next train is due you may decide to wait for it, if your ticket is valid on that service. Find a safe place to wait and let a parent or carer know you will be delayed. Greater Anglia have a tool to help you avoid the busiest services.
Remember to keep enough charge on your mobile phone so you can phone someone to help you should the unexpected happen.

During August, children aged 5-15 can travel by bus for free
